The true Rowan Tree (Sorbus Aucuparia) grows best in Celtic lands – Scotland, Ireland and Wales. It was believed by the ancients to be extremely protective and to have many Magical properties.

Some of the old lore included the belief that at the base of the spindly little trunk of the Rowan was a door that many of the Underworld creatures – dragon, leprechauns, but especially the Fae traveled back and fourth from our realm to theirs.

In North America dwells a cousin to the Rowan Tree of Celtic lands known as Sorbus Americana or Mountain Ash – this is not the tree that we are talking about – although it is a relative.
